New transport technology for the GICON® SOF introduced

GICON Group presents at Sail Sassnitz to industry professions and the general public

To bring offshore project developers and service providers active in the Baltic Sea region together. To exchange views on current and upcoming projects and opportunities for collaboration. With these objectives in mind, Fährhafen Sassnitz GmbH invited companies to the 3rd Annual Offshore Summit as part of Sail Sassnitz from 14 - 16 August 2015.

GICON presented the latest developments to its floating offshore foundation (GICON® SOF) and particularly a new transport technology that can lead to further cost reduction in the future. In addition, at the open house, regional companies and the general public informed themselves about the various offshore services the GICON Group, which at their core are provided by Edelstahl und Umwelttechnik Stralsund GmbH (ESG, Stainless Steel and Environmental Engineering Stralsund GmbH) and the Institut für Angewandte Ökosystemforschung (IfAÖ, Institute for Applied Ecology).

Simultaneous transport of the foundation and gravity anchor is expected to reduce levelized cost of energy even more

In a lecture, Prof. Grossmann presented the fabrication status of the GICON® SOF, the floating foundation for offshore wind turbines developed by GICON. For the first time, he presented a new transfer technology for the GICON® SOF, whereby both the foundation and the anchor are towed together from the port to the installation site. This technology will not be used for the planned 2016 Installation of the SOF functional model, but will lead to further significant cost reductions in the future. GICON’s target for the SOF is a levelized cost of energy (LCOE) at well below 10 Euro cents / kWh. A video of the future transport and anchoring technology is available at www.youtube.com/GiconGroup.

In addition to the lectures, the participants were able to provide additional information in the exhibition rooms. The GICON and the WindEnergy Network e.V pavilion, at which the GICON® SOF and the freshly-printed new brochures of ESG were distributed, was also well attended.

Cooperation with Baltic Taucher sealed

At Sail Sassnitz, GICON and Baltic Taucherei- und Bergungsbetrieb Rostock GmbH (Baltic Taucher, Baltic Diving and Salvage Rostock GmbH) put the finishing touches on their cooperation in the drafting of the Installation Manual for the SOF functional model. It was also agreed that GICON and Baltic Taucher will attend HUSUM Wind (15 to 18 September 2015) with a joint stand.

GICON thanked Fährhafen Sassnitz GmbH for the successful organization of the event and for the opportunity to present GICON and the SOF.
